How it plays
How does NBA Jam: Tournament Edition play?
Matches are played from a side-on, scrolling court perspective in two-on-two games. The objective is to outscore the opposing team before time expires, with baskets worth two or three points depending on distance. Players can pass, shoot, steal, block, sprint with turbo, shove opponents, and perform exaggerated dunks.
The game includes regular play, multiplayer competition, and tournament-style progression. Teams can substitute athletes during play, and successful actions build turbo power. Tournament Edition adds expanded team and player options, secret characters, and gameplay adjustments that make matchups less predictable than in the original release.
Plan your run
What is the best way to play NBA Jam: Tournament Edition?
Use turbo selectively rather than holding it continuously. Save a charge for fast breaks, defensive recovery, or a dunk attempt when the lane is open.
Pass to create space and watch the opponent’s position before shooting. A two-on-one fast break is usually safer than forcing a contested shot, while deliberate steals and blocks can quickly reverse momentum.
Before you begin
What should you know before playing?
- 1
Learn each player’s shooting range and dunk approach.
- 2
Protect the ball near the sideline, where recovery is difficult.
- 3
Use substitutions when a player’s effectiveness drops.
