How it plays

How does DOOM play?

The game uses a first-person perspective. Each level requires the player to navigate rooms and corridors, find color-coded keycards or switches, defeat enemies, and reach the exit.

The marine begins with basic weapons and gains stronger firearms, ammunition, armor, health, and power-ups during exploration. Levels contain ambushes, secret areas, locked routes, and escalating enemy groups. The 32X release is a single-player campaign with a limited set of DOOM episodes and no network or split-screen multiplayer.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play DOOM?

Conserve powerful ammunition for large enemies and crowded rooms, while using the shotgun or chaingun against ordinary targets. Keep moving in open areas; many enemies are dangerous because they can surround a stationary player.

Search for keycards, switches, secret doors, and power-ups before taking an exit. Memorize enemy positions after a failed attempt, and use infighting when monsters attack one another.
