How it plays
Battles use a first-person arena view with turn-based commands. Players select moves, switch Pokémon, use items where permitted, and predict an opponent's actions while managing type matchups, status effects, accuracy, and remaining team members.
Stadium 2 includes Stadium battles, Gym Leader Castle challenges, Battle Tower-style competitions, Free Battle, and multiplayer modes. Rules and available Pokémon vary by cup or event, while rental Pokémon provide ready-made teams for players without a transferred party.
Progression comes from clearing cups and Gym Leader Castle opponents. The game also includes Pokémon Academy lessons, a Pokédex, a laboratory for transfer features, and minigames that support both solo and multiplayer play.
Plan your run
Build teams with complementary type coverage rather than relying on one powerful Pokémon. Include moves that handle status conditions, protect against common weaknesses, or provide reliable damage.
Check each cup's level and species restrictions before selecting a team. In difficult battles, preserve information-gathering moves and avoid switching repeatedly into predictable type disadvantages.
Rental Pokémon are useful, but inspect their moves carefully. In multiplayer, vary your choices and watch for common patterns such as early setup, sleep attempts, or repeated use of high-power attacks.

Pokémon Stadium 2 is a Nintendo 64 battle simulator developed and published by Nintendo. It expands the original Stadium formula with Pokémon from the Johto Pokédex alongside returning creatures, allowing players to assemble teams and fight under structured competitive rules. The main experience combines turn-based battles, challenge cups, a Gym Leader Castle, and a large collection of multiplayer minigames. Pokémon can also be transferred from compatible Game Boy Pokémon games through the Transfer Pak. The game was well received for its presentation, broad roster, useful training options, and strong local multiplayer, although its battle systems are most rewarding for players already familiar with Pokémon mechanics. Its emphasis is not on a traditional adventure campaign, but on testing team building, move selection, and tactical decision-making in a series of increasingly demanding battles.
