How it plays

How does Prince of Persia play?

The game uses a side-view perspective with screen-by-screen dungeon rooms connected into a larger labyrinth. The prince climbs ledges, jumps gaps, avoids blades and pits, drinks potions, and fights guards with a sword. Movement is intentionally precise: running too far, jumping late, or stepping onto a pressure-sensitive trap can be fatal.

The main adventure is divided into timed levels. Progress depends on learning room layouts, finding routes, surviving hazards, and defeating opponents. Some rooms contain healing or harmful potions, while later stages introduce more complex traps, tougher guards, and supernatural challenges. The SNES release also includes expanded stages and additional encounters compared with the original computer version.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Prince of Persia?

Treat every movement as a deliberate action. Walk near ledges, check the floor before running, and use short jumps when a long leap is unnecessary. Learn the timing of pressure plates, collapsing floors, and blade traps instead of trying to rush through unfamiliar rooms.

Save time by memorizing safe routes and avoiding unnecessary fights. During sword battles, defend first when an enemy is close, then counterattack after the opponent exposes an opening. Test potions cautiously, and remember that the countdown makes efficient exploration as important as combat skill.
