How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective. Players travel through an interconnected fantasy world, visit towns, gather information, clear dungeons, and defeat bosses guarding the Mana Seeds.
Randi, Primm, and Popoi can use different weapons and magic. Weapons gain proficiency through use, while weapon orbs and magic training unlock stronger levels. Up to three players can participate locally by controlling the party members.
Plan your run
Keep every character equipped with an appropriate weapon and upgrade weapon proficiency regularly. Save weapon orbs for the weapons that the party uses most often, and return to the blacksmith when new orbs become available.
During boss fights, watch attack patterns and avoid spending all magic points at once. Primm's healing magic is especially valuable, while Popoi's offensive spells can exploit enemy weaknesses. Use the ring menu during pauses in combat to change targets, spells, and equipment safely.

Secret of Mana is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo. It follows Randi, a boy chosen to wield the Mana Sword after an ancient power is disturbed, and his companions Primm and Popoi as they confront an empire seeking to revive the Mana Fortress. Combat takes place in real time rather than through turn-based commands, with weapons, magic, and cooperative play forming the core experience. The game is structured around exploration, towns, dungeons, and boss encounters, with a distinctive ring menu for quick access to equipment and spells. It was widely praised for its colorful presentation, accessible combat, memorable music, and three-player support, although its collision and menu systems could sometimes feel rough.
