How it plays
Shadow Man is played from a third-person perspective across interconnected areas in Liveside and Deadside. Michael explores haunted locations, fights supernatural enemies, searches for key objects, and solves environmental puzzles while pursuing serial killers and the forces threatening both realms.
Progression depends on collecting supernatural abilities, weapons, and special objects. New powers open previously inaccessible routes, so revisiting earlier areas is an important part of the adventure. The Nintendo 64 version is a single-player campaign with no documented multiplayer mode.
Plan your run
Explore each area carefully before moving on; important objects and routes are often hidden away from the main path.
Use newly acquired powers to identify locked passages in earlier regions, then return to collect upgrades and resources. Conserve ammunition for stronger enemies, learn enemy attack patterns, and use the environment to create safer firing positions.

Shadow Man is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Acclaim Studios Teesside and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. It follows Michael LeRoi, a New Orleans man who becomes the supernatural Shadow Man and travels between the living world and Deadside, a realm of the dead. Exploration, combat, platforming, and environmental puzzles form the core play style, with a dark horror atmosphere throughout. The game was noted for its large interconnected environments, disturbing imagery, and ambitious scope. Its controls and camera received more mixed responses, especially on the Nintendo 64, but its mood, world-building, and challenging exploration earned it a lasting cult following.
