How it plays
Splatterhouse is viewed from the side and is divided into seven linear stages. Rick must move from left to right, defeat waves of monsters, avoid hazards, and reach a boss at the end of each stage.
The character can walk, crouch, jump, attack, and pick up certain weapons. Weapons such as clubs, cleavers, and shotguns provide stronger or longer-range attacks but are generally temporary. Defeated enemies do not provide a conventional experience system; progression comes from learning enemy patterns, conserving health, and overcoming fixed stage challenges.
Plan your run
Advance cautiously rather than rushing into groups of enemies. Use crouching attacks against low threats and keep enough room to jump over projectiles or retreat.

Before you begin
The PC Engine version rewards memorizing enemy entrances and hazard timing.
Jumping is useful both for crossing traps and for resetting your position after an attack.
Splatterhouse is a side-scrolling horror beat 'em up developed and published by Namco for the PC Engine. The player controls Rick Taylor, who enters a haunted mansion wearing the powerful Terror Mask to rescue Jennifer and confront the forces behind the massacre. The game combines straightforward arcade combat with grotesque imagery, trap-filled rooms, and boss encounters. Rick fights with punches, kicks, jumps, and weapons found in the environment, while each stage uses a compact, challenging layout. The PC Engine version is a close home adaptation of the arcade game, although it changes some presentation and content. It was well received for bringing the arcade original's atmosphere and violence to a home console.
