How it plays

How does Star Wars: Rogue Squadron play?

The game is played from a behind-the-craft perspective, with the player steering a Rebel vehicle through open 3D environments. Missions set objectives such as escorting convoys, defending bases, rescuing personnel, destroying targets, or surviving enemy attacks.

Players accelerate, brake, turn, roll, fire primary weapons, and use available secondary weapons. The campaign unlocks additional craft and missions as objectives are completed. Optional medals reward high scores, speed, accuracy, and successful protection of allied units. A password system is used to access some progression and bonus content.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Star Wars: Rogue Squadron?

Read the full mission briefing before launching, because success often depends on protecting a specific unit rather than simply destroying enemies. Stay near escort targets and prioritize enemies attacking them.

Use the terrain for cover when approaching anti-aircraft defenses. Preserve secondary weapons for objectives that require concentrated damage, and replay completed missions to improve medal requirements after new vehicles become available.
