How it plays

How does Street Fighter II: The World Warrior play?

Matches take place in two-dimensional arenas. A fighter wins by reducing the opponent's vitality before time expires, normally taking two rounds in a best-of-three contest.

The World Warrior mode requires the player to defeat a route of opponents, followed by the four unplayable boss fighters. Versus mode allows two players to fight each other, while options control difficulty, round time, and number of rounds. Each fighter has distinct strengths, special techniques, and a unique ending.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Street Fighter II: The World Warrior?

Learn one fighter's normal attack ranges before relying on special moves. Use blocking and controlled movement to punish missed attacks rather than constantly rushing forward.

Against the computer, observe its habits and preserve a safe distance from projectiles or charge attacks. In versus play, vary jump-ins, throws, and low attacks so the opponent cannot defend by reacting to one repeated pattern.
