How it plays
Players guide Master Higgins from left to right through platforming stages. The objective is to reach the end of each area, collect food and power-ups, defeat enemies, and overcome a stage boss.
Movement, jumping, and weapon attacks are central to play. Food maintains the vitality timer, while better weapons improve offensive range or power. The game follows a linear stage progression and includes several themed areas with checkpoints and boss battles.
Plan your run
Keep moving so the vitality timer does not expire, but do not rush blindly into enemies or pits. Collect fruit and other food whenever possible, and preserve a strong weapon for difficult sections.
Learn the placement of rocks, flames, moving platforms, and boss attacks. Short, controlled jumps are safer than running continuously, especially near steep drops and narrow platforms.

Master Higgins's girlfriend, whose kidnapping drives the adventure.
Super Adventure Island is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It stars Master Higgins, who travels across a tropical island to rescue Tina after she is kidnapped by a supernatural enemy. The game combines precise running and jumping with throwable weapons, food-based health management, and dangerous environmental hazards. Its stages use colorful 16-bit scenery, scrolling terrain, caves, forests, and boss encounters. The game was generally recognized as a polished and accessible SNES entry in the Adventure Island series, although its time limit and recurring damage hazards can make later areas demanding.
