How it plays
Arthur advances through a sequence of side-scrolling stages filled with monsters, traps, moving platforms, and environmental hazards. He can walk, crouch, jump, attack in eight directions while airborne, and climb ladders where provided.
Enemies drop weapons, while armor upgrades improve Arthur's protection and can enable magic attacks. Reaching the end of a stage leads to a boss battle. The game normally requires a return through the stages after obtaining the required equipment before the final confrontation.
Plan your run
Learn enemy spawn points and treat each life as a route-learning attempt. Attack threats before jumping, because many hazards are positioned to punish blind movement.
Keep the strongest armor possible, but remember that taking a hit removes armor before costing a life. Conserve magic for crowded areas and bosses, and avoid replacing a familiar weapon with an unfamiliar drop near a difficult jump.
Meet the cast
The armored knight controlled by the player. He uses weapons and magic to fight through the supernatural stages.
The princess Arthur must rescue from the forces of the demon world.
Before you begin
Use short, deliberate jumps rather than rushing across platforms.
Crouching can avoid some projectiles while allowing Arthur to keep attacking.
Watch for stage transformations and repeat routes carefully on the return playthrough.
