How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective across eight worlds, each containing standard platform stages, underground or underwater areas, and castles. The main objective is to reach the goal while avoiding hazards, defeating enemies, collecting coins, and finding power-ups.
Mario can run, jump, bounce on enemies, enter pipes, and use Fire Flowers when available. Completing stages opens the next course. Additional modes and challenges add collectibles, score goals, map exploration, and alternate objectives beyond the main adventure.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of running jumps before attempting difficult gaps; momentum is central to clearing many stages.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is a platform game developed by Nintendo R&D2 and published by Nintendo for Game Boy Color. It is an expanded remake of the original Super Mario Bros., presenting the Mushroom Kingdom adventure in a portable format while adding maps, collectibles, records, and extra challenges. Players guide Mario through side-scrolling stages, defeat enemies, collect coins, and reach the flagpole at the end of each course. The game preserves the original’s precise running and jumping while adapting its presentation to the handheld screen. It was well received for its faithful gameplay, substantial bonus content, and technical presentation, although the smaller display can make some sections feel more cramped than on the NES.
