Jack
One of the two young ninja heroes and a playable lead character.
How it plays
The overworld uses a top-down perspective. Players visit towns, speak with inhabitants, buy or receive items, and enter dungeons or combat areas while pursuing the story. Exploration is tied to key items and events that open new routes.
Combat stages switch to side-scrolling action. Jack and Ryu punch, kick, jump, avoid hazards, and use equipment or special abilities against groups of enemies. Progression comes from defeating bosses, collecting items, and advancing through increasingly demanding areas.
Plan your run
Learn enemy attack patterns before committing to close-range strikes. Short attacks followed by a retreat are safer than standing directly in front of durable enemies.
Search towns and stages carefully for healing items, equipment, and story triggers. In two-player play, separate enemy attention and avoid both players occupying the same vulnerable space.
Meet the cast
One of the two young ninja heroes and a playable lead character.
Jack's ninja companion and the second playable hero, especially useful in cooperative play.
Before you begin
Use cooperative play when available; two players can control crowds more safely.
Keep healing and useful items for boss approaches rather than spending everything in ordinary encounters.
Super Ninja Boy is a 1991 Super Nintendo action RPG developed and published by Culture Brain. It is the third main entry in the Super Chinese series and follows the ninja heroes Jack and Ryu as they travel through a colorful fantasy world threatened by invading forces. The game combines overhead exploration, dialogue, item collection, and town-based progression with side-scrolling combat stages. Players can fight alone or cooperate with a second player in supported sections. Its mixture of traditional role-playing structure and arcade-style martial arts made it unusual for the period. Reception was generally positive for its variety, humor, and cooperative play, although its difficulty and uneven pacing were noted by some players.
