How it plays
How does Super R-Type play?
The game uses a horizontal side-scrolling perspective. The objective is to guide the R-9 through a sequence of stages, destroy enemies and environmental targets, and defeat a large boss at the end of each area.
The Force pod can be attached to the front or rear of the fighter, detached for independent positioning, or used as a shield against some attacks. Power-ups change the fighter's weapon, while holding the fire button charges a stronger shot. The game is built around a single-player arcade-style campaign with limited continues and checkpoint-based progression.
Plan your run
What is the best way to play Super R-Type?
Treat the Force as both a weapon and a shield. Attach it to the side that best covers the next threat, then detach it to attack enemies from unusual angles.
Learn enemy entrances and boss patterns rather than rushing. Charge shots before predictable openings, keep the fighter near a safe lane, and preserve lives for later checkpoints where recovery is difficult.
Before you begin
What should you know before playing?
- 1
Use the Force pod defensively when a corridor leaves little room to maneuver.
- 2
Do not collect every power-up automatically; choose the weapon that fits the upcoming stage.
- 3
Expect checkpoint restarts after losing a life and practice difficult sections deliberately.
