How it plays
How does The Chessmaster play?
The game uses a two-dimensional chessboard viewed from above. Players select pieces, choose legal destinations, and attempt to checkmate the opposing king while observing standard chess rules, including castling, en passant, promotion, and stalemate.
Matches may be played against the computer or a second player. The game provides adjustable computer strength and analysis-oriented features, allowing players to study positions, request assistance, and replay or review moves. Progression is based on improving play rather than unlocking a campaign.

What is the best way to play The Chessmaster?
Control the center early with pawns and develop knights and bishops before moving the same piece repeatedly. Castle when practical, but check that the destination is safe and that no pieces obstruct the move.
Against the computer, examine candidate moves before committing and use the analysis or teaching functions to identify tactical threats. Review losses afterward to find the first move that changed the evaluation of the position.
