How it plays

How does The Uncanny X-Men play?

The game uses a side-view action perspective. Players move through linear stages, defeat waves of enemies, avoid environmental hazards, and reach the end of each area. A second player can join in cooperative play, with each player selecting an available X-Man.

The six heroes differ mainly through their attack behavior: some fire projectiles, while others rely on short-range attacks or distinctive powers. Progression is stage-based rather than experience-based; completing a level advances the scenario, but there is no conventional inventory, character leveling, or equipment system.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play The Uncanny X-Men?

Learn the timing of each character’s attack before committing to a stage. Ranged attacks are generally safer against ordinary enemies, while close-range characters require deliberate spacing.

Move cautiously around pits and hazards, and avoid rushing into groups of enemies. In two-player mode, keep the characters close enough to support one another without allowing both players to be trapped by the same obstacle.

Editorial context

What do players highlight?

The licensed roster is appealing, but the controls and collision behavior make the game difficult to recommend without strong nostalgia.
