Thomas
The cheerful blue tank engine and the series’ central character.
How it plays
The game presents railway activity from a top-down viewpoint. Players select an engine, follow assigned jobs, travel between locations, and use track junctions to reach the required destinations.
Objectives involve carrying out railway tasks while avoiding collisions, missed routes, and other operational mistakes. Progress comes from completing scenarios and learning how Sodor’s connected tracks and switches work. The emphasis is on route planning and careful movement rather than combat or conventional platforming.
Plan your run
Study the complete route before moving, especially when a job requires passing through several junctions.
Use switches deliberately and keep an eye on nearby traffic. Completing the assigned railway work safely is more important than taking the fastest-looking route.

Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends is a family-oriented railway strategy and simulation game developed by WJS Design and published by THQ for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The player helps engines complete railway jobs around the Island of Sodor, managing routes, switches, cargo, and schedules rather than simply racing from one station to another. Its play style combines light planning with direct train control and is aimed at younger players familiar with the television series. The game received limited attention compared with larger SNES releases, but it remains notable as an early console adaptation that attempts to turn the series’ railway operations into an interactive management experience.
