How it plays
Players view the action from a side-scrolling perspective and fight through sequential stages filled with Foot Soldiers, mutants, robots, and hazards. Each Turtle can walk, jump, attack, perform a special move, pick up enemies or objects, and throw targets toward opponents or the screen.
The main mode follows a linear time-travel adventure with boss encounters at the end of selected stages. A two-player mode allows two Turtles to fight together, while the SNES release also includes a Versus mode. Progress depends on defeating waves of enemies and learning each stage's hazards and boss patterns.
Plan your run
Use throws to clear groups quickly, especially when several enemies approach from one side. Jumping attacks are useful against low or awkwardly positioned targets, while special attacks can provide emergency crowd control at the cost of health.
Learn boss attack patterns instead of trading hits. In two-player games, divide enemies between both players and avoid throwing targets into your partner. Preserve health-restoring items and watch for environmental attacks in later time periods.

Editorial context
A highly regarded SNES beat 'em up with responsive combat, memorable stages, and excellent cooperative play.
The time-travel theme and strong boss encounters give the straightforward arcade formula considerable variety.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed and published by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Players control one of the four Turtles as they pursue Shredder and Krang through different historical eras. The game emphasizes close-range combat, enemy throws, environmental hazards, and cooperative play for two people. The SNES version adapts the arcade game while adding exclusive stages, bosses, modes, and gameplay changes. Its colorful presentation, responsive controls, varied time-travel setting, and strong two-player action earned it a highly positive reputation and made it one of the most celebrated console beat 'em ups of the 16-bit era.
