How it plays

How does Tomb Raider play?

The game is viewed from behind Lara in fully 3D environments. Each level requires exploration, key hunting, switch puzzles, platforming, combat, and locating the exit.

Lara can run, jump, grab ledges, swim, climb ladders, use switches, and fire several weapons. Levels are mostly linear but often contain optional rooms, secrets, ammunition, and health items. Progression comes from solving the current area's puzzles and completing successive archaeological locations.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Tomb Raider?

Survey each room before moving on, especially for switches, ledges, and climbable surfaces. Save frequently because missed jumps and ambushes can cause substantial health loss.

Conserve ammunition by using pistols against weaker enemies, keep distance from dangerous creatures, and search thoroughly for secrets. Entering a new area without triggering every visible mechanism can leave the exit or a key inaccessible.
