How it plays

How does Top Gear play?

Races are viewed from a behind-the-car perspective. The objective is to finish ahead of the field while managing corners, roadside hazards, opposing traffic, and fuel consumption on long courses.

Players steer, accelerate, brake, and select from available cars before entering a championship-style sequence of races. Courses contain checkpoints and distinctive terrain, and successful results allow progress through later events. A two-player split-screen mode supports competitive racing on the same console.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Top Gear?

Brake before tight corners rather than entering them at full speed, and use the road width to set up a clean exit. Avoid unnecessary contact with traffic and barriers because crashes cost more time than cautious positioning.

Learn each course's major bends and checkpoint routes. In two-player races, consistency is often more valuable than taking risky shortcuts or forcing collisions.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Choose a car whose handling matches the course rather than relying only on top speed.

  2. 2

Start braking early for sharp turns and accelerate as soon as the car is aligned with the road.

  3. 3

Use two-player split-screen racing to learn routes and compare cornering lines.
