How it plays

How does Uncharted Waters: New Horizons play?

The game uses a world-map sailing perspective, with ports represented by menus and town screens. The player chooses one of six protagonists, then pursues that character's scenario while independently exploring, trading, fighting, recruiting officers, and improving a fleet.

Ships consume supplies and are affected by wind, provisions, cargo capacity, crew quality, and maintenance. Port commands include buying and selling goods, outfitting vessels, hiring sailors, accepting contracts, and gathering information. Naval encounters use a turn-based tactical view in which positioning, artillery, boarding, and morale matter.

Progress comes from wealth, reputation, discoveries, political influence, officer abilities, and scenario objectives. Different protagonists provide substantially different routes through the same world.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Uncharted Waters: New Horizons?

Begin by learning profitable trade routes close to your home port rather than sailing immediately across the world. Keep enough provisions and reserve cargo space for discoveries or emergency purchases.

Upgrade ships gradually, recruit capable officers, and assign them to roles that match their strengths. In naval combat, protect valuable ships, use artillery when distance favors you, and board only when crew quality and morale make the attack worthwhile.

Check scenario objectives regularly. A wealthy fleet is useful, but completing the protagonist's personal goals is what advances the campaign.
