How it plays
The game uses a third-person perspective behind the player’s vehicle. Missions usually require destroying opposing vehicles, protecting an ally, reaching a target, or surviving a timed encounter. Players steer through arenas, collect weapons and power-ups, and use buildings and scenery as cover or as weapons.
Modes include story-driven campaigns, single battles, and multiplayer matches. Progression in the campaign comes from completing objectives and unlocking additional content, while vehicle performance depends on each character’s car and special abilities. Successful attacks can also trigger environmental destruction and chain reactions.
Plan your run
Prioritize mobility over constant firing. Keep moving around the arena, use buildings to break enemy fire, and collect weapon pickups before committing to a close-range attack.
Learn each vehicle’s special weapon and defensive strengths. In mission stages, complete the stated objective first rather than chasing every opponent, and use environmental hazards when several enemies are grouped together.

Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense is a vehicular-combat action game developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision for the Nintendo 64. Set in an alternate version of 1970s America, it follows rival drivers who use heavily armed cars and trucks in battles across destructible environments. The game is built around arcade handling rather than realistic driving, with weapons, special attacks, jumps, and environmental hazards shaping each encounter. Its main appeal is the combination of a story campaign, competitive multiplayer, and broad vehicle customization. Compared with the original Vigilante 8, it expands the roster, arenas, and mission structure. Critics generally praised its variety, humor, and multiplayer depth, while some noted that the controls and visual presentation could feel demanding on Nintendo 64 hardware.
