How it plays
The game uses a third-person driving perspective. Players steer through open arenas, search for weapons and power-ups, destroy opponents, and complete scenario objectives such as protecting allies or eliminating selected targets.
Single-player missions are organized around character campaigns, while multiplayer focuses on arena battles. Vehicles have different handling and weapon characteristics, and progression comes from clearing missions, discovering pickups, and unlocking additional content.
Plan your run
Learn each arena before committing to a fight. Keep moving, use buildings and terrain to break enemy fire, and collect weapon pickups whenever a safe route is available.
Save powerful attacks for clustered opponents or mission targets. Vehicle handling matters as much as firepower, so choose a car that suits the arena and avoid getting trapped against walls or scenery.

Developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision, Vigilante 8 is a vehicular-combat action game set in an alternate version of the 1970s United States. Players drive armed cars through destructible environments while completing objectives and fighting rival vehicles. Its campaign combines arcade driving with projectile weapons, special attacks, and character-specific stories. A multiplayer mode supports competitive battles on the Nintendo 64. The game was well received for its energetic combat, large arenas, and humorous presentation, although its controls and camera could feel demanding during crowded fights.
