How it plays

How does Virtua Fighter play?

Players choose a fighter and battle through a sequence of one-on-one matches. A round is won by depleting the opponent's life bar, knocking the opponent out of the ring, or having more health when time expires.

Movement uses a side-on 3D perspective with sidestepping around the arena. Players can punch, kick, guard, throw, evade, and use character-specific attacks. Arcade-style progression leads to a final confrontation with Dural, while versus play supports competitive matches between two players.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Virtua Fighter?

Learn the relationship between punch, kick, and guard before trying to memorize advanced attacks. Guard unsafe attacks, punish recovery with a fast strike, and use throws when an opponent blocks too often.

Ring position is especially important. Sidestep predictable linear attacks, keep the opponent near the edge, and be ready to attack after a knockdown. In versus matches, observe which attacks the opponent repeats and adjust rather than relying on a single combo.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use guard to study an opponent's attack patterns before committing to retaliation.

  2. 2

Practice ring-outs and throw timing; both can end a round without depleting the full life bar.

  3. 3

Dural is a boss character rather than a standard tournament fighter.
