How it plays

How does The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask play?

The game uses a third-person perspective. Link explores Termina, enters dungeons, solves puzzles, defeats enemies, collects items, and ultimately seeks a way to stop the Moon before the final deadline.

The world follows a three-day cycle. Link can reset time with the Song of Time, preserving selected progress while the daily schedules of characters and events begin again. Masks transform Link into forms with different movement and combat abilities, while dungeons provide key items, bosses, and progression toward the finale.

A single-player adventure includes side quests, optional masks, heart pieces, bottles, and collectible fairies. The Bomber's Notebook and clock-based schedules help track objectives and character routines.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask?

Use the Song of Time before the final hours whenever you have completed a major objective. The Inverted Song of Time slows the clock, while the Song of Double Time advances it to a chosen period.

Learn the schedules of important characters and use the three-day cycle deliberately. Keep a supply of arrows, bombs, and other consumables before entering a dungeon, and save spare bottles for fairies or quest items.

Explore each area after obtaining a new transformation mask. Deku, Goron, and Zora forms open different routes and are essential for both dungeon progression and optional heart pieces.
