How it plays
The game uses a third-person 3D perspective. Link explores Hyrule Field and connected regions, speaks with inhabitants, collects equipment, solves environmental puzzles, and defeats enemies and dungeon bosses.
Progression is structured around story objectives and dungeons. New items open previously inaccessible routes and provide tools for combat or puzzle solving. Link can play as a child or adult, with certain areas, events, and equipment available only in one period.
Plan your run
Explore each region thoroughly before leaving it. Dungeon maps, compasses, keys, and newly acquired items often reveal optional rooms or routes that were previously inaccessible.
Use Z-targeting to control battles, watch enemy attack patterns, and keep a supply of bottles, fairies, and restorative items. Playing learned ocarina songs near suspicious landmarks can reveal shortcuts, characters, or useful rewards.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a 3D action-adventure game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It follows Link, a young Kokiri who must protect Hyrule from Ganondorf and prevent the Triforce from being misused. The game combines open-world exploration, dungeon puzzles, sword combat, item-based progression, and time travel between childhood and adulthood. Its large overworld connects villages, fields, lakes, and themed dungeons, while the ocarina enables story events and magical effects. Ocarina of Time was widely praised for translating Zelda's exploration and puzzle design into three dimensions, and it became one of the Nintendo 64's most influential and highly regarded games.
