Asterix
A small but exceptionally strong Gaulish warrior and one of the two playable heroes.
How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. The player guides Asterix or Obelix through linear stages, moving across platforms, avoiding hazards, collecting useful items, and fighting Roman soldiers and other enemies.
Stages are divided into themed areas with checkpoints and boss encounters. Progress depends on reaching the end of each level and surviving increasingly demanding platforming sections. Character choice affects how encounters feel, but the core objective remains exploration, combat, and rescue.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of enemy attacks before advancing, especially in narrow platforming sections. Moving carefully is usually safer than rushing through hazards.
Use the safer route when a stage offers multiple paths, and preserve health for boss encounters. Practice jumps around moving platforms because missed landings can cause repeated damage or lost progress.

Asterix and the Great Rescue is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Core Design and published by Sega for the Genesis and Mega Drive in 1993. It uses the world of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo’s Asterix comics, placing the Gaulish heroes in a rescue mission across hostile territory. The game combines running, jumping, enemy encounters, and exploration rather than complex role-playing systems. Players can control Asterix or Obelix, each presenting a different style of play. Reception was generally mixed: the comic-book presentation and character humor were appreciated, while reviewers often criticized uneven controls, difficulty, and level design.
