Sega Genesis

The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in most regions outside North America, was Sega's 16-bit home video game console and one of the defining systems of the early 1990s console wars. It emphasized arcade-style action, sports, platformers, and speed-focused gameplay, helping Sega build a strong identity against its main rival, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Technically, the Genesis used a Motorola 68000 CPU with a Zilog Z80 supporting audio and backward compatibility functions, alongside a custom graphics processor capable of colorful scrolling backgrounds and sprite-heavy games. Its library became especially notable for action franchises, licensed sports titles, and iconic mascots such as Sonic the Hedgehog, and it left a lasting impact on console marketing, third-party competition, and 16-bit game design.
