How it plays
Players choose from five fighters: Billy, Jimmy, Rash, Zitz, or Pimple. The objective is to clear a sequence of side-scrolling stages by defeating groups of Shadow Warriors, avoiding hazards, and overcoming bosses.
The Genesis version supports single-player and simultaneous two-player modes. Characters can punch, kick, jump, use weapons, and exploit objects or defeated enemies. Progression is stage-based rather than experience-based; success depends on learning enemy patterns, conserving health, and coordinating attacks in cooperative play.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of enemy approaches instead of continuously attacking. Short attacks followed by repositioning are safer than standing in the middle of a crowd.

Battletoads & Double Dragon is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Rare and published by Tradewest for the Sega Genesis in 1993. It combines the Battletoads protagonists with Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon in a joint fight against the Dark Queen and the Shadow Warriors. The game supports one or two players and emphasizes direct combat, enemy throws, environmental weapons, and cooperative positioning. Its stages move through streets, industrial areas, and hostile vehicles, with occasional hazards and boss encounters. Reception was generally favorable for the crossover concept and polished action, although critics also noted its high difficulty and the familiar structure of contemporary beat 'em ups.
