Arcade cabinets use an 8-way joystick and dedicated fire and grenade buttons.
How it plays
The screen shows the battlefield from behind the player character. Move the soldier and aiming reticle, shoot enemies, and use grenades against groups or tougher targets while avoiding bullets and explosions.
Stages are divided into combat sections that must be cleared before the game advances. Many background structures can be destroyed, removing cover and exposing enemies. A limited supply of grenades and a finite number of lives make movement, timing, and target priority important.
Plan your run
Prioritize enemies that can attack immediately, especially tanks, aircraft, and explosive threats. Keep moving while firing, and use dives to avoid dense bullet patterns.
Meet the cast
The unnamed player-controlled soldier sent behind enemy lines to eliminate hostile forces.
Before you begin
Use short movements while aiming so the soldier remains difficult to hit.
Reserve grenades for moments when several enemies appear together.
Cabal is a 1988 arcade third-person shooter developed by TAD Corporation and distributed by Taito Corporation. The player controls a soldier defending himself against waves of enemy troops, armored vehicles, aircraft, and fortified positions. Its distinctive perspective places the character near the bottom of the screen while a movable aiming reticle targets enemies in the playfield. Players combine gunfire, limited grenades, movement, and evasive dives to survive. The game supports one or two players and became well regarded for its destructive scenery, forceful action, and demanding arcade difficulty.
