John Morris
A vampire hunter who uses a whip and serves as one of the two playable protagonists.
How it plays
The game uses a two-dimensional side-scrolling perspective. The objective is to guide either John Morris or Eric Lecarde through a sequence of stages, defeat enemies and bosses, and stop the vampire threat.
Players jump across platforms, attack with their character's primary weapon, collect restorative and offensive items, and avoid environmental hazards. John uses a whip, while Eric fights with a spear and has distinctive movement abilities. Progression is stage-based, with a boss encounter concluding each major area.
Plan your run
Learn each character's attack range and movement before committing to a difficult route. John is generally easier to use at ground level, while Eric's spear and movement options can help against enemies positioned above or below him.
Conserve sub-weapons and healing items for sections where they provide a clear advantage. Watch enemy patterns, attack bosses from safe positions, and use stage hazards against enemies whenever possible.

Before you begin

Do not rush through unfamiliar rooms, since traps and enemies are often placed just beyond the visible area.
Castlevania: The New Generation is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo and published by Konami for the Sega Genesis. It follows John Morris and Eric Lecarde as they investigate a supernatural crisis connected to the return of Elizabeth Bartley and Dracula. Players fight through gothic stages filled with monsters, traps, platforming hazards, and large bosses. The two heroes have different weapons and movement characteristics, giving the campaign some replay value. The game was recognized for its detailed graphics, strong music, and demanding action, although its difficulty and occasional uneven pacing divided players. This entry is also known as Castlevania: Bloodlines in North America and Japan. The supplied release is identified as a European beta build, so its content may differ from the final retail version.
