How it plays
Chelnov advances through horizontally scrolling stages filled with platforms, gaps, enemies, hazards, and boss encounters. The objective is to survive each section, defeat or avoid threats, and reach the end of the stage before losing all lives.
The character can run, jump, and fire in multiple directions. Weapon power-ups alter the attack's strength or behavior, making careful collection important. The arcade game is structured as a sequence of fixed stages, with increasingly demanding enemy patterns and environmental traps.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of jumps instead of relying on constant forward movement; many hazards punish late reactions.

Chelnov: Atomic Runner is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Data East for arcades in 1988. The player controls Chelnov, a scientist transformed by radiation who must run through a hazardous industrial and urban world while fighting hostile creatures and machines. Its play style combines automatic forward movement, jumping, projectile attacks, and frequent power-up collection. The game is notable for its demanding timing, unusual visual design, and rapid pace rather than for a conventional platforming structure. Reception has remained mixed but memorable: some players value its distinctive setting and arcade intensity, while others find its collision rules and level difficulty severe. It later became a cult curiosity among Data East arcade releases.
