How it plays

How does Comix Zone play?

Comix Zone uses a side-view perspective. Sketch moves through connected comic panels, defeating mutants, avoiding traps, collecting items, and finding routes through each page. Punches, kicks, jumps, blocks, and throwable objects form the basic combat system.

The pages contain branching paths and environmental interactions. Sketch can tear pieces from the comic to create paper airplanes or use them as healing items, while Roadkill can help uncover secrets and attack enemies. Progress is divided into comic issues, with boss encounters and a final confrontation with Mortus.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Comix Zone?

Learn enemy patterns before committing to attacks. A block can reduce damage, while alternating punches and kicks helps control groups without wasting health.

Search each panel for switches, breakable areas, and alternate routes. Save paper items for situations where they provide healing or solve a puzzle, and use Roadkill when the game presents an interaction for him.

Bosses are safer when approached patiently: defend first, punish recovery animations, and avoid being pushed toward panel edges or hazards.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Explore both directions when a panel offers a branch; useful items and safer routes can be easy to miss.

  2. 2

Use throwable objects and environmental hazards to reduce pressure from groups of enemies.

  3. 3

Keep healing items for later panels and boss approaches.

Editorial context

What do players highlight?

A visually inventive Genesis beat 'em up with memorable comic-book presentation.

The atmosphere and animation remain strong, but the short campaign and severe difficulty can be frustrating.
