The detectives
The player-controlled police team investigating and dismantling the city’s criminal organization.
How it plays
Dead Connection uses a top-down perspective. Players guide detectives through fixed, maze-like areas, defeat waves of gangsters, and advance toward a stage-ending confrontation. Movement is handled independently from aiming, allowing the player to circle enemies and attack from different directions.
Stages contain environmental cover and objects that can affect encounters. Progression is based on clearing successive areas rather than exploring a large persistent map. Cooperative arcade play lets multiple detectives fight together, while enemy numbers and attack patterns make positioning important.
Plan your run
Keep moving instead of standing in open areas, especially when several enemies are approaching from different directions. Use walls, corners, and other scenery to limit the angles from which enemies can attack.
Clear nearby threats before advancing into a new section, and coordinate fire with other players in cooperative games. Because the available space can become crowded, avoid letting enemies surround the character.
Meet the cast

Dead Connection is a 1992 arcade action game developed and published by Data East Corporation. It combines overhead shooting with beat 'em up structure, placing a team of detectives in a stylized 1930s crime story. Players move through city streets, interiors, and other compact stages while confronting organized criminals with firearms and close-range attacks. The game supports cooperative play and emphasizes quick reactions, enemy positioning, and careful use of limited resources. Its comic-book presentation and gun-focused action gave it a distinctive identity in arcades, although it remained a relatively obscure Data East release compared with the company's better-known fighting and action games.
