Superman
The original hero and the first playable character, who faces Doomsday in the opening storyline.
How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective and follows a linear sequence of combat stages. Players defeat waves of enemies, collect occasional power-ups, and advance toward boss encounters based on the comic storyline.
Superman is the initial hero. After his defeat, the campaign introduces Superboy, Steel, the Eradicator, and Cyborg Superman, each with different attack properties and special moves. Players fight using movement, basic attacks, jumps, grabs, and character-specific abilities.
Plan your run
Learn the range and recovery time of each hero's basic attack before committing to groups of enemies. Keep moving to prevent opponents from surrounding the character, and use jumps or special attacks when several enemies approach together.
Bosses are safer to fight from a controlled distance whenever possible. Save health-restoring items or powerful attacks for crowded sections and major encounters rather than spending them immediately.

The Death and Return of Superman is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Blizzard Entertainment and published by Sunsoft for the Sega Genesis in 1994. It adapts the well-known DC Comics storyline in which Superman confronts Doomsday, dies, and is followed by four competing successors. The game emphasizes direct arcade-style combat, with heavy punches, jumps, throws, and character-specific special attacks. Players move through urban and industrial stages filled with comic-book enemies before facing prominent villains and rival heroes. Its presentation and broad playable cast were generally regarded as ambitious for the hardware, while reviews commonly noted repetitive combat and uneven difficulty. The game remains notable as one of the more substantial Superman action adaptations of its era.
