Billy Lee
One of the two martial-artist protagonists and a playable character.
How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Players move through stages from left to right, defeat groups of enemies, and advance through brief cutscene transitions and boss encounters.
Billy and Jimmy can strike, jump, throw opponents, and use dropped weapons. The campaign is designed for one or two players, with progress centered on clearing a fixed sequence of international stages and defeating the final opponents.
Plan your run
Stay near the edges of enemy groups rather than allowing attacks from both sides. Prioritize enemies carrying weapons, since their attacks can quickly interrupt your movement.
In two-player mode, separate targets where possible and avoid striking your partner during crowded encounters. Save safer positioning and repeated jump attacks for bosses instead of rushing into the center of the screen.
Meet the cast
One of the two martial-artist protagonists and a playable character.
Billy's brother, partner, and second playable martial artist.
Before you begin
Use dropped weapons before they disappear.
Avoid being surrounded; move through groups instead of standing still.
Cooperative play is safer when both players focus on the same enemy.
Double Dragon 3: The Arcade Game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Technos Japan and released for the Sega Genesis in 1993. It follows martial artists Billy and Jimmy Lee as they travel internationally to recover three mystical Rosetta Stones and confront increasingly dangerous opponents. The game supports cooperative play and builds its action around close-range punches, kicks, throws, jumps, and weapons taken from defeated enemies. This version adapts the arcade game for Sega hardware, retaining its multi-stage structure while presenting a distinct home-console release. Reception was mixed: players generally appreciated the cooperative brawling and recognizable Double Dragon foundation, while criticism focused on uneven difficulty, repetitive combat, and technical limitations.
