How it plays

How does Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone play?

Players guide Billy or Jimmy through side-scrolling stages viewed from a horizontal perspective. The objective is to defeat successive groups of enemies, move through hazards, and clear each area before confronting a stage boss.

The arcade version supports one or two players. Players attack, jump, grab opponents, throw enemies or weapons, and use weapons such as clubs and knives when available. Progress follows a fixed international stage route, with new allied fighters becoming available during the journey.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone?

Learn enemy attack timing instead of advancing continuously; groups can surround the player quickly.

  • Conserve weapons for dense enemy groups or bosses.
  • Use throws to interrupt enemies and create space.
  • In two-player mode, avoid attacking from opposite sides of the same enemy, which can make positioning unsafe.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

The jump-kick and grab attacks are useful for controlling crowds, but careless jumps can leave the player exposed.

  2. 2

Try the alternate allied fighters when available; their reach and attack patterns differ from Billy and Jimmy.

  3. 3

The game is substantially easier when both players coordinate attacks and avoid stealing each other's spacing.
