Duke Leto Atreides
Leader of House Atreides, whose campaign emphasizes disciplined forces and comparatively humane conduct.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down battlefield view. Players place a construction yard, build facilities, harvest spice with harvesters, and produce infantry, vehicles, and advanced weapons. Units are selected individually or by group and sent across the map to attack, defend, scout, or gather resources.
Each house follows a campaign of missions on an Arrakis map. Completing objectives opens later territories and technologies. Victory normally requires destroying the opposing base, although some missions emphasize control, survival, or a specific target. Faction-specific units and technologies give the three houses different tactical strengths.
Plan your run
Secure spice fields early and protect harvesters with combat units. Expand only when the base can defend its additional structures, since losing production buildings can halt the entire economy.
Use scouts to reveal routes and enemy positions, then attack exposed harvesters or isolated defenses. Keep mixed forces together: infantry can occupy ground while vehicles provide mobility and firepower. Research and build house-specific units when the mission permits them.
Meet the cast

Before you begin
Keep at least one combat unit near every harvester.
Repair or replace damaged harvesters before attempting a major assault.
Save before choosing the next campaign territory, because the choice affects mission order.
Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis is a science-fiction real-time strategy game developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Games for the Sega Genesis. Players choose House Atreides, House Harkonnen, or House Ordos and fight for control of Arrakis, the only known source of spice. The game combines base construction, resource collection, unit production, and tactical combat across a campaign of increasingly difficult missions. This console version adapts the landmark computer strategy design to a controller-driven interface. It is widely regarded as an important early real-time strategy game and helped establish conventions later used throughout the genre.
