How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Players move through branching stages, defeat groups of enemies, open containers, collect weapons and items, and battle large bosses. Route decisions and hidden areas can change the sequence of later encounters.
Up to four players can cooperate. Each class has a different normal attack, special move, equipment profile, and access to magic or skills. Characters become stronger through better equipment and collected items rather than through a traditional experience-level system.
Plan your run
Learn enemy attack patterns before committing to long attack strings. Use the environment, thrown objects, and class-specific abilities to control groups rather than approaching every encounter the same way.
Save powerful spells and consumable items for bosses or difficult ambushes. Explore alternate paths and containers, because equipment and hidden items can significantly affect later stages.

Documented inputs

Before you begin
Use the item and equipment systems actively; hoarding every consumable makes later boss fights harder.
In multiplayer, spread the party across enemies instead of stacking every character on one target.
Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara is a side-scrolling fantasy beat 'em up with action-RPG mechanics, developed and published by Capcom for arcade systems. Players guide a party of adventurers through Mystara while fighting monsters, collecting equipment, and making occasional route choices. Six distinct character classes provide different attacks, abilities, and spell options, giving the game more variety than a conventional arcade brawler. Released in 1996, it was widely regarded as one of Capcom's strongest arcade beat 'em ups. Its branching stages, cooperative play for up to four players, inventory system, and Dungeons & Dragons-inspired combat made it particularly influential among fantasy arcade games.
