How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective and supports cooperative arcade play. Players move through combat stages, defeating monsters, collecting treasure, and reaching the stage exit or boss. Some routes branch according to choices made during the adventure.
The Fighter, Cleric, Dwarf, and Elf have different strengths and abilities. Basic attacks, jumping, directional attacks, items, and character-specific magic support the fighting. Experience and equipment improve the party during the quest, while limited continues and character health keep the arcade structure challenging.
Plan your run
Learn enemy attack patterns before committing to long attack strings. Keep moving around large enemies, use jumps to avoid crowded ground attacks, and save magic or restorative items for bosses.
Search stages for treasure and equipment, but do not take unnecessary damage for minor rewards. In multiplayer, divide targets and reserve the Cleric's healing or the Elf's spells for dangerous encounters.
Meet the cast

A holy warrior who combines mace attacks with healing and divine magic.
A durable close-range fighter with powerful attacks and high resilience.
A quick fighter who relies on agility and a broad selection of offensive spells.
Before you begin
Use character-specific strengths: the Fighter and Dwarf are reliable in close combat, while the Cleric and Elf provide stronger utility and magic.
Do not spend every item immediately; boss battles and late stages are the most demanding.
Branching paths can change the order and selection of later encounters.
Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom is a side-scrolling fantasy beat 'em up developed and published by Capcom for arcade systems in 1993. It adapts the Mystara setting into a cooperative action adventure, combining direct combat with role-playing touches such as equipment, magic, experience, and branching routes. Players choose from four distinct heroes and fight through monsters, traps, and bosses while pursuing a stolen artifact and the forces behind the Tower of Doom. The game was well received for its responsive combat, colorful presentation, and unusually deep arcade progression, although its length and difficulty could make continued play expensive. It later became the first part of the Chronicles of Mystara collection.
