How it plays
The game is viewed from the side. Jim moves through a sequence of themed stages, defeats enemies, avoids hazards, collects items, and reaches an endpoint or completes a stage-specific objective.
Jim can run, jump, use his whip, fire his weapon, and exploit the abilities of his suit. Levels frequently change their rules: some use vehicles, timed movement, swimming, target shooting, or puzzle-like interactions. Progress is mainly stage-based, with boss encounters and checkpoints determining advancement.
Plan your run
Learn the objective of each stage before committing to a route. Earthworm Jim 2 changes its mechanics frequently, so familiar platforming habits are not always sufficient.

Earthworm Jim 2 is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Shiny Entertainment and published by Playmates Interactive Entertainment for the Sega Genesis in 1995. It follows Jim as he travels through surreal worlds to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name from Psy-Crow. The game combines traditional platforming with shooting, whip attacks, vehicle segments, puzzles, and deliberately unusual level mechanics. Its varied presentation and animated humor earned strong critical attention, although some reviewers found the later stages less consistent than the original game's best areas. The Genesis version preserves the series' distinctive cartoon style while adapting its unusual set pieces to the hardware.
