How it plays

How does Final Fantasy II Easy Type play?

Cecil and his party travel between Baron, Mist, Fabul, Mysidia, the Underworld, and the Moon. Exploration uses an overhead map with towns, castles, caves, towers, and other dungeons. Progression is driven by story events, new party members, key items, airship upgrades, and access to previously unreachable regions.

Battles use Final Fantasy IV’s Active Time Battle system. Each character selects commands such as Fight, Magic, Item, Defend, or character-specific abilities while gauges fill in real time. Party members leave and join during the story, and equipment, levels, spells, and summoned monsters determine how the group handles bosses. The SNES version supports one player and stores progress through in-game save points and menu saves.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Final Fantasy II Easy Type?

Use Cecil’s early Dark Knight equipment until the story changes his class; after the change, replace his armor and weapons with paladin-appropriate gear found in Mysidia and Mount Ordeals. Keep Rosa protected because her healing and status recovery are essential in long dungeons.

Rydia’s elemental spells are particularly important against enemies with clear weaknesses, while Tellah’s limited spell charges make MP management important. In the Underworld and on the Moon, check shops and treasure chests before major bosses, maintain Float where the dungeon requires it, and save before scripted confrontations. Because the exact Easy Type edits are not fully documented here, verify unusual damage, item, or boss behavior during play rather than relying on the unmodified game’s numbers.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use the menu save option whenever the current area permits it; dungeon save points are also valuable before bosses.

  2. 2

Watch party changes closely because equipment may return to the inventory when a character leaves.

  3. 3

Exploit elemental weaknesses with Rydia and the other spellcasters instead of relying only on physical attacks.
