How it plays
How does Galaga '88 play?
The game uses a fixed vertical playfield viewed from the front. The player moves horizontally along the bottom, shoots incoming formations, and survives successive stages of enemy attacks.
Stages include formation assaults, diving enemies, and bonus-style sections. Captured or collected fighters can increase the player's firepower, while later rounds introduce tougher patterns and hazards. A run ends when the player's available ships are lost.
Plan your run
What is the best way to play Galaga '88?
Stay near the center until an enemy commits to a dive, then move beneath it while continuing to fire. Learn the timing of formation entries so you can clear enemies before they begin repeated attacks.
- Build up the player's firepower when the opportunity is safe.
- Avoid greedily capturing an enemy if its rescue pattern creates unnecessary danger.
- Use the full width of the playfield, but leave room to react at both edges.
Before you begin
What should you know before playing?
- 1
Prioritize enemies that leave the formation and attack repeatedly.
- 2
Watch the lower edge of the screen during diving patterns; late movement is often unsafe.
