How it plays

How does Ganryu play?

Ganryu uses a side-view perspective. The player guides Musashi through linear stages, defeats enemies, avoids hazards, and reaches a boss encounter at the end of each area.

Musashi can move, jump, attack with his sword, and use additional techniques when available. Stages include platforms, ladders, vertical movement, environmental hazards, and collectible items. Progression is stage-based, with new locations and bosses replacing conventional character leveling.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Ganryu?

Learn enemy placement and attack timing before attempting to move quickly. Keep Musashi at a safe distance when possible, and use jumping attacks carefully around platforms and hazards.

Conserve useful techniques for dense enemy groups and bosses. Examine vertical routes for items, but avoid unnecessary risks when the stage timer or enemy pressure makes a direct route safer.

Meet the cast

Who are the key characters?

1

Musashi

The playable swordsman and protagonist, loosely based on Miyamoto Musashi.

2

Sasaki Kojiro

The rival associated with the game's central conflict and its Ganryu legend.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Treat the first attempt on each stage as reconnaissance; enemy patterns are more important than speed.

  2. 2

Use the sword before jumping into an enemy's space, especially near pits and moving hazards.

  3. 3

Do not assume every elevated route is safer; some platforms expose Musashi to attacks from multiple directions.
