How it plays
Gargoyles uses a side-view perspective. Each stage requires Goliath to travel from one end of the area to the other, defeat enemies, overcome platforming hazards, and reach the stage's conclusion or boss encounter.
Goliath fights primarily at close range and can move across floors, platforms, walls, and other surfaces. Progression is stage-based rather than equipment-driven: completing a level advances the story, while later stages introduce tougher enemies, more demanding hazards, and larger encounters.
Plan your run
Learn the range and timing of Goliath's melee attacks instead of rushing into groups. Use walls and platforms to control enemy approaches, and look for destructible scenery that may open safer routes.
Against bosses, prioritize survival: observe their attack patterns, strike during recovery windows, and keep enough space to react. Climbing can help you reposition, but it does not replace careful timing around hazards.

Gargoyles is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Disney Interactive and published by Buena Vista Interactive for the Sega Genesis in 1995. It places the player in control of Goliath, leader of the Manhattan gargoyles, as he battles enemies and supernatural threats across stages inspired by the animated series. The game combines platforming with close-range combat. Goliath can punch, claw, jump, climb, and use the environment during encounters. Its large character sprites, destructible scenery, and dark presentation stood out on the Genesis. Reception was generally mixed to positive, with critics often praising the animation and atmosphere while noting uneven difficulty and repetitive combat.
