How it plays

How does Gate of Doom play?

Players guide one of four fantasy heroes through isometric-style, scrolling combat stages. The objective is to defeat groups of enemies, avoid environmental hazards, collect useful items, and reach each stage's boss.

The warrior, wizard, elf, and dwarf have different combat strengths and magical abilities. A joystick controls movement while separate arcade buttons handle attacks and magic. Progression comes from clearing stages, finding equipment or power-ups, and learning enemy patterns; the game also supports cooperative play for two players.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Gate of Doom?

Stay mobile rather than trading hits with large enemy groups. Use the edges of the play area to separate enemies, then attack during their recovery animations.

Save magic for bosses and dangerous clustered encounters. Learn trap locations, collect healing items when safe, and use each character's strengths: durable fighters can hold the front line while magic-focused characters attack from safer positions.
