How it plays

How does Ghosts 'n Goblins play?

The player controls Arthur from a side view and advances through several scrolling stages toward a boss. He can run, jump, climb ladders, throw weapons, and collect replacement armor.

Weapons include the lance, dagger, torch, axe, and shield, each changing Arthur's attack behavior. Enemies, traps, water, and uneven platforms punish rushed movement. After defeating the final boss once, the game requires a second journey with a specified weapon to reach the true ending.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Ghosts 'n Goblins?

Learn enemy entry points and prioritize safe positioning over speed. Keep armor whenever possible, and avoid discarding a reliable weapon unless the stage demands it.

Use short jumps to control landings, attack Red Arremers only when their movement is predictable, and remember the weapon requirement for the second playthrough. Practice each boss pattern rather than trading damage.
