How it plays
Golden Axe: The Duel is a side-view, one-on-one fighting game. Each match is won by depleting the opponent’s life bar before the round timer expires, with rounds and match settings determined by the arcade machine.
Players move, jump, attack, guard, throw, and use character-specific magic. Fighters have different weapon ranges, mobility, and special attacks. Arcade progression consists of successive battles against computer-controlled opponents, leading to a final confrontation; versus play allows two people to fight directly.
Plan your run
Learn the range and recovery of the chosen fighter’s main attack before relying on special moves. Safe pokes and guarded approaches are more dependable than repeatedly attempting slow magic attacks.
Watch the opponent’s jump and recovery habits. Punish missed heavy attacks with a quick strike or throw, and save magic for situations where its range or damage cannot be easily interrupted.

Before you begin
Use each fighter’s different reach and movement rather than playing every matchup identically.
Do not spend magic immediately if the opponent can punish the casting animation.
Practice anti-air timing because repeated jumping is a common arcade tactic.

Golden Axe: The Duel is a 1995 arcade fighting game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega. It transfers the medieval fantasy setting of the Golden Axe action series into one-on-one combat, with warriors using weapons, throws, defensive moves, and limited magic. Matches are designed for short arcade sessions, while a roster of distinct fighters gives the game different speeds, reach, and special-move patterns. The game was released for Sega arcade hardware during the peak of polygonal and sprite-based fighting games. It received attention for its detailed character animation and recognizable Golden Axe atmosphere, although its smaller competitive footprint kept it from matching the popularity of Sega’s Virtua Fighter line.
