How it plays
Gunforce is a side-scrolling action game viewed from the side. The objective is to move through enemy-held areas, defeat soldiers and machines, avoid hazards, and reach the end of each stage before confronting major threats.
The player can fire in multiple directions, jump across gaps, and use vehicles or mounted weapons when available. Weapon pickups provide temporary firepower, while the limited stock of lives and continues makes careful movement important. Stages are structured as linear arcade missions with boss encounters and no character-development system.
Plan your run
Keep moving while firing, but avoid advancing blindly into enemy fire or environmental hazards.

Gunforce - Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island is a 1991 arcade run-and-gun action game developed and published by Irem. It places the player in a heavily armed soldier's assault across a hostile island controlled by enemy forces. The game follows a side-scrolling format, combining direct shooting with vehicle sections and large mechanical threats. Players advance through compact action stages, collecting weapons and switching between infantry combat and mounted firepower. Its fast pace, explosive presentation, and straightforward controls reflect Irem's arcade design of the period. The game is chiefly remembered as the original Gunforce and as a predecessor to the more widely recognized Gunforce II.
