The match is viewed from a top-down, slightly angled perspective. Players control the active footballer while directing passes, shots, tackles, and movement with the Genesis controller.

The main objective is to outscore the opposing national team. Progression is based on completing matches in tournaments or selecting individual fixtures in exhibition play. Team selection and player strengths affect how each side handles speed, passing, shooting, and defense.

Use short passes to move the defense before attempting a shot. Switching quickly to the nearest defender is important because the computer-controlled players do not always cover dangerous spaces.

Attack from angles rather than shooting directly through defenders, and avoid sprinting continuously. Preserve possession in midfield, then use a quick forward pass when a teammate makes a run.
